Student Initiatives
The Institute for Sustainable Technology and Development (ISTD) is proud to support students' cross-campus efforts in sustainability, from the creation of our nationally recognized recycling program to the design of a solar house. We offer:
- help finding the best resources for your student project,
- a library of more than 600 materials for your research, and
- contact with experts in your subject matter.
We also support special activities for students to explore and test their knowledge about sustainability. These include:
- Net Impact
- Want to raise awareness about the importance of sustainability and corporate social responsibility? Join a student organization in the College of Management focusing on corporate social responsibility.
- Engineering Students Without Borders
- Want to implement a sustainable technology solution in a community that needs our help? Join Engineering Students Without Borders, a student organization in the College of Engineering that plans, designs, and implements sustainable technology solutions.
- Solar Decathlon
- Participate in an exciting national competition on the design and construction of a solar house on the Mall in Washington, D.C. The Decathlon Team is open to all students. The next competition will be held in 2007.
- TI:GER
- Interested in moving sustainable technologies to the marketplace? The Technological Innovation: Generating Economic Results (TI:GER) program is a unique approach to preparing students for the challenges of commercializing new technologies and delivering innovative products to the marketplace.
- Business Plan Competition
- Have a winning innovation? Tech's business plan competition includes a special award for sustainability.
